EGNW will require it employees to lift up to 40lbs within the safe lifting zone, that is, below shoulder and above hip level. Loads weighing 40lbs but stored above shoulder level or below hip level or load weighing more than 40lbs requires employee’s best judgement in deciding if the load need to be handled alone or in a team or with a lifting device. If team or lifting device is required employees must report to their supervisor/leads/manager for further assistance. Employees will conduct daily visual checks on carts to ensure its integrity and notify managers of any damaged wheels or carts. Damaged carts must be removed from operations immediately and a service request placed. Employees receive proper lifting techniques training during orientation. Department managers/supervisors will inform employees of material handling tasks in their respective areas. Refresher training on safe lifting will be provided on a yearly basis through toolbox talks. 9.19 Respiratory Protection Respirators are an effective method of protection against designated hazards when properly selected and worn. EGNW will follow the WAC 296-842 requirements regarding use of respirators at work. Respirators will be required whenever respiratory hazards ( oxygen-deficient conditions and harmful airborne hazards ) are present, that is while exposure controls are being evaluated or put in place or when it is not feasible to use exposure controls to remove or reduce the airborne hazard to below PEL. Dust masks will be provided to employees at no cost. Fit testing will not be required for dust mask, mouthpiece respirators and voluntary use of other types of respirators as per WAC 296-842-15005 . Exemption: A program administrator will not be required if employees only use filtering face piece respirators and do so only as voluntary use.
