9.10 Scissor Lift A scissor lift is a machine made to move personnel and equipment in a vertical direction. These lifts can handle any application that would normally require a ladder, tower or scaffolding. There are numerous hazards associated with use of scissor lifts such as equipment tipping over, fall from work at height, injuries or even death and property damage. R&S will be involved during discussion and selection of scissor lift to ensure the right type of equipment is being purchased for the right task and no new hazards are being introduced into the business. This exercise will be completed by conducting a thorough risk assessment. Purchasing Department will notify Insurance and Claims Manager to proceed with purchase of insurance for company owned scissor lift, rented or leased prior to releasing the equipment into operations. Asset Protection staff will occasionally have to conduct work at height for installation or fixing of cameras, cables or checking alarm system. Any operator using scissor’s lift shall be trained, certified and authorized by EGNW. New operators will have to complete both theory and practical training. Yearly refresher training will be provided to designated operators, which will include practical only. A certified scissor lift training will comprise of both theory and practical trainings. The trainer shall be competent to deliver such training, that is, will be knowledgeable and experience in safe operations of scissor lift. Training will be provided by either a contractor or EGNW Train the Trainer authorized person. Training records will be kept with Training Department on TAG. Once operator has completed their training, they will be required to email their certificate to Training Department. Safe scissor lift use will include proper maintenance of the equipment, following manufacturer’s instructions, providing workers training and use of needed personal protective equipment (hard hats), and implementation of safe work practices. Scissor lifts must have guardrails installed to prevent workers from falling. A safety harness will not
